Editor Tools Overview

As a modern-tech-savvy person, we're confident that you're familiar with the editor tools, because they're quite similar to the ones you use to edit a in your word processor. However, for a quick review, here is an overview of the tools and their functions.

Editor Toolbar


Row 1 - Tools

 

Undo / Redo
Undo (or redo) the preceding action.

Ctrl-Z
Ctrl-SHIFT-Z
 

Paste
Inserts the contents of the "clipboard" at the location of the cursor.

Paste inserts the contents of the clipboard at the location of the cursor without modification. Paste as Plain Text inserts the contents of the clipboard at the location of the cursor as plain text. Paste from Word inserts the contents of the clipboard at the location of the cursor after removing font and style definitions.

Select All
Selects all the content (text, images, tables, videos, etc.) within the current content editor.

Ctrl-A

 

Cut
Cuts selected content (text, images, tables, videos, etc.) and places it on the "clipboard" leaving nothing in place.

Ctrl-X

 

Copy
Copies selected content (text, images, tables, videos, etc.) and places it on the "clipboard" leaving the original content in place.

Ctrl-C

 

 

  

Find / Replace
Find and/or replace words within the current content editor.

   

 

Spell Check
Spell Check is run as you type, with misspelled words underlined in red. Right-Click* on a red underlined word to see suggestions.

Show Blocks
Toggles between revealing and hiding formatting blocks.

Row 2 - Text Block Tools, Insert Links and Media Tools

Text Alignment
Aligns the selected text as indicated (left, center, right, or force-justify).

   

Decrease / Increase Indent
Decreases or increases the paragraph indent by one tab setting per click.

   

Create A List
Starts a numbered or bulleted list of text at the location of the cursor (or converts the selected text into a list). If an existing list is selected, this button removed the numbers or bullets.

   

Blockquote
Converts the selected text into a block quote.

   

Insert / Remove Hyperlink
Converts the selected content (text or image) into a hyperlink. If an existing hyperlink is selected, a dialog box opens to modify the selected hyperlink. The second button is used to remove existing hyperlinks.

Converts the selected content (text or image) into a hyperlink to a downloadable document.

Content Templates
Inserts a preformatted content block to help you get started with complex layouts. Content templates make it easy to create multi-column designs, staff listing, image features, and more!

 

 

Insert Horizontal Line
Inserts a horizontal line across the page at the location of the cursor.

   

Insert Image
If no images is selected, this inserts a new image at the location of the cursor. If an existing image is selected, this button opens a dialog box to modify the selected image.

If no table is selected, this inserts a new table at the location of the cursor. If an existing table is selected, this button opens a dialog box to modify the selected table.

Insert Widget
Opens a dialog window to configure and insert a widget such as an FAQ set, a headline feed, an upcoming events feed, etc.

Insert Google Map
Inserts an interactive Google map at the location of the cursor. Opens an editor window if an existing Google map is selected.

Insert YouTube
Inserts a video from YouTube, Vimeo, etc. at the location of the cursor.

Insert Anchor
Inserts a hyperlink anchor (visible only in the editor window, not on the live site) at the location of the cursor. This anchor can then serve as a destination for a hyperlink elsewhere on the page. If an existing anchor is selected, this button allows modification of that anchor.

Insert Flash
Inserts a Flash element at the location of the cursor. Opens an editor window if an existing Flash element is selected.

 

 

Insert Special Character
Opens a pop-up window to select a special character (e.g. icon, symbol, or foreign letter).

 

 


Row 3 - Text Styling Tools

Format Eraser
Removes formating from selected text.

   

Type Style
Applies site-specific type designs (font, size, color, weight, etc.) to the selected text.

   

Text Styling
Applies bold, italic, underline, or strike-through to the selected text.

Ctrl-U

 

Superscript / Subscript
Superscript or subscript styling are now found under the Styles dropdown

   

Text Color / Background Color
Style the selected text with a different color or background color.

 

 

Font Face
Choose a different font for the selected text. Please note that fonts may not display the same on all devices due to font availability, especially those marked with an asterisk.

   

Font Size
Increse or reduce the font size for the selected text.

   

Line Height
Tweak the line height for the selected text so that it appears properly. Useful after large changes in text size.

   

Spacing
Tracking is also known as letter spacing. Adding letter spacing can give a stylistic effect.
